A Little Plastic Bag Humor

The following is a blog post from The Vibe, SocialVibe's official blog:

What's the polite way to tell the store cashier "Thanks, but no thanks" when he or she offers you a plastic bag for your purchase? In most situations, "Thanks, but no thanks" works like a charm. But as fashion illustrator Julia Durgee explains, there are more than a few ways for you to have a little fun when turning down another ocean-and-landfill-clogging piece of plastic. She's also included a few fun (and scary) facts about plastic, just in case you are still struggling to rid yourself of the wasteful habit.

HAITI Needs Your Help

On January 12, 2010, the country of Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7.0 earthquakes, destroying institutions, schools, homes, and tearing apart families. Now, more than a month after the tragedy wide-spread relief efforts are still in full force and help and donations are still needed from as many people as possible.

1. The Red Cross was one of the first organizations to construct a campaign to help Haiti after the country was struck by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The Red Cross has already raised over $2 million through their famous text message campaign and the number continues to rise. If you have not yet donated through the Red Cross, you can donate $10 by texting "Haiti" to 90999.

2. Buy "We Are The World 25 For Haiti" from iTunes. 100% of the proceeds go towards rebuilding Haiti!

3. Donate to charity:water to support sustainable clean water solutions by visiting http://www.charitywater.org/haiti/.

4. Buy the Haiti Relief shirt from Lady Gaga's online store at http://ladygaga.shop.bravadousa.com/Default.aspx. The design is cute and all of the proceeds will go towards Haiti!

5. YĆ©le Haiti is a new grassroots movement inspiring change in Haiti through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. They have recently teamed up with SocialVibe to fund crucial recovery efforts in Haiti including reforestation to prevent future flooding. See my post below about SocialVibe on more information on how to join SocialVibe and start supporting Yele Haiti for free.
